Withhold not good from them to
whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. (Proverbs 3:27)
After the Chicago fire I
came to New York for
money, and I heard there was a rich man in Fall
River who was very liberal. So I went to him. He
gave me a check for a large amount, and then got into his carriage and drove
with me to the houses of other rich men in the city, and they all gave me
checks. When he left me at the train I grasped his hand and said:
"If you ever come to Chicago , call
on me, and I will return your favor."
He said: "Mr. Moody, don’t
wait for me; do it to the first man that comes along."
I never forgot that remark; it
had the ring of the true good Samaritan.
