And not many days after the
younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and
there wasted his substance with riotous living. (Luke 15:13)
He started off, holding his head
very high that morning. He was full of pride and conceit, and he had very lofty
ideas. If any one had told him what he was coming to, he would have laughed in
scorn. But mind you, once a man starts on the downward track, he will sink lower
and lower, unless by the grace of God he turns from sin to righteousness. The
first lie, the first drink, the first petty theft, is often a crisis in a man’s
life.
